We’re delighted to announce Dr. Tyler Eastmond was converted from postdoc to staff and will officially begin his new duties as a Beamline Scientist at 16-BM-B on November 26, 2024.

Tyler has been part of the HPCAT user community since 2019, beginning as a graduate student in Pedro Peralta’s group at Arizona State University. His dedication to high-pressure research led to a graduate internship at HPCAT in early 2022, followed by a postdoctoral appointment after completing his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in September 2022.

As a postdoc, Tyler has been integral in supporting efforts on the PE press at 16-BM-B, and over the last two years has played a major role in our upgrade effort and full reconstruction of 16-BM-B as a dedicated station for PE cell experiments. Dr. Eastmond’s exceptional work earned him an "Outstanding Poster Presentation Award" at the 2023 Postdoctoral Research and Career Symposium held at Argonne National Laboratory in November 2023. Beyond his research, Tyler has made significant contributions to science outreach, including cohosting tours and hands-on demonstrations for Chicago-area high school students as part of the 2024 Science Careers in Search of Women (SCSW) Conference. He also led workshops for graduate students during the 2024 National School on Neutron and X-ray Scattering (NX School).

In his new role, Dr. Eastmond will collaborate with Dr. Innocent Ezenwa and the 16-BM-B team to enhance the Paris-Edinburgh (PE) press program, spearhead technique development, and support users returning after the APS and HPCAT upgrades.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Eastmond to his new role. We are thrilled to have him on the team and look forward to his continued contributions to HPCAT’s success!
