CDAC students and staff visit HPCAT
Graduate students and research professors, Stephen Gramsch and Muhetaer Aihaiti of CDAC at UIC visited HPCAT on Friday, June 14th. The visit provided an opportunity for a first-hand look at the major upgrade at HPCAT and APS, as well as discussion on future opportunities in high-pressure sciences with advanced x-ray sources. Host facility staff, Curtis Kenney-Benson, Jesse Smith, Eric Rod, Dmitry Popov and many others, provided a great overview of the detailed effort required for building, maintaining, and upgrading a large scale x-ray facility. With over $10M invested so far (out of a projected ~$14M total cost), HPCAT has undergone a full upgrade of all x-ray delivery components and improved many experimental capabilities. With a phased restart approach commencing early July, HPCAT is preparing to resume operations and bring back users over the coming months.
