We're excited to welcome new Beamline Scientist Dean Smith to our HPCAT team. Following an open and competitive search, Dean joined HPCAT as of June 3, 2024. He will focus on working with Jesse Smith and Ross Hrubiak in supporting users and advancing various capabilities at 16-ID-B and across various HPCAT platforms. After the completion of his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Salford (Manchester, UK), Dean moved to the US as a postdoctoral scholar, then joined HPCAT for two years in 2019-2021, and subsequently held a Research Faculty position at UNLV.  Dean has strong background in DAC and high-pressure research and a significant part of Dean’s career has been focused on developing and refining optical instruments for diamond anvil cell experiments, particularly instruments which interface with synchrotron beamlines. We are excited to have Dean join the HPCAT team as his background and experience will be vital to further supporting developments of cutting edge research, along with Ross and Jesse in advancing capabilities at 16ID-B and across HPCAT.
