HPCAT beamline scientists Ross Hrubiak and Dmitry Popov took part in mentoring a group of 8 graduate students during the 2021 National School on Neutron and X-ray Scattering (NXS), which was held virtually this year. The students got a virtual “hands-on” experience by conducting a short remote experiment at an HPCAT beamline. HPCAT scientists provided virtual training for high-pressure X-ray diffraction experiments at 16-BM-D using a diamond anvil cell and a practical guide to the data analysis to the students during the classes. 

The main purpose of the National School on Neutron and X-ray Scattering  is to educate graduate students in the use of major neutron and X-ray facilities. Students conduct short experiments at Argonne's Advanced Photon Source and at Oak Ridge National Laboratory's Spallation Neutron Source and High Flux Isotope Reactor.
